Oils and Butters

Coconut oil brings big, fluffy lather and a firm, long-lasting bar. Olive oil, the heart of this recipe, is gentle and deeply moisturising, leaving skin soft without stripping it. Shea butter adds rich conditioning and a silky, creamy feel, prized for its natural vitamins and skin-nourishing fatty acids. Mango butter offers similar emollient benefits to shea, with a lighter texture that helps keep the bar smooth and firm. Castor oil rounds things out by boosting lather and drawing extra moisture to the skin, leaving the finished bar feeling soft and conditioned.

Natural and Sustainable Soap Colours

I mostly use mica to bring colour into my soaps, working with two types: ethically sourced natural micas and sustainable synthetic micas. Both are mineral-based, plastic-free, and completely safe on your skin.Like many clean beauty and cosmetic brands, I'm increasingly leaning towards synthetic mica for my colours (working towards 100%). Despite the name, synthetic mica actually carries a lower sustainability footprint than mined mica — it's microplastic-free and skips the ethical grey areas that can come with mining. The natural mica I still use is ethically sourced from low-risk regions like the US, with a commitment to no forced or child labour, and support for fair trade and environmentally responsible practices. It's mined, then coloured using plastic-free synthetic pigments, and it's fully vegan and cruelty-free.

Fragrance and Essential Oils

All the fragrance oils I use in my soaps are made right here in Australia, by trustworthy Australian manufacturers. They're high-grade, fully tested, and meet all relevant safety standards, so you can feel confident about what's going into your bar. Like everything else in my soaps, they're vegan and cruelty-free too.

Prefer Essential Oils? I Got You!

I know fragrance oils aren't for everyone. Maybe you're sensitive to them, or you'd simply rather know exactly what's going into your soap. Whatever your reason, I've got you covered. My essential oils are also sourced from Australian suppliers, fully compliant with health and safety standards, and 100% natural, no compromises, just the real thing.

What About Those Less Recognisable Ingredients?

Every true soap, including this one, is made using sodium hydroxide (lye) dissolved in distilled water. When lye meets oils and butters, it triggers saponification, the chemical reaction that turns oil into soap; it's a non-negotiable part of soapmaking. By the time the bars are cured and ready to use, no sodium hydroxide remains in the finished product - but it's still listed on the ingredients label, as standard practice.Then there's sodium lactate. This is a naturally derived salt (often made from fermented sugar) added in small amounts to the lye solution. It makes bars harder and more long-lasting.

The Good Soap ingredients are chosen deliberately - for how they treat your skin, sure, but also for where they come from and what went into making them. I try to source thoughtfully: favouring suppliers who are upfront about their practices, ingredients that don't cost the earth more than they give back, and materials I'd feel comfortable explaining to you in person.I choose suppliers who share my values where I can find them - Australian-based where possible, cruelty-free always, and increasingly transparent about where things really come from.If you're keen to know who my suppliers are, or would like to learn more about my sustainability due diligence, please don't hesitate to reach out.
